A visual exploration of the human movements, focused on martial arts performances as a conduit to explore motion.
Static Movements aims to crystallise movements of the human body into a tangible series sequences, turned into layers of perception through the use acetate, draft film and tracing papers. The project is printed on see-through sheets and bound into a large scale custom book.
As a self-initiated investigation, I begun by filming the performances. I then extracted the frames and manually traced over them to obtain vector assets. I experimented with overlay layers as well as testing outcome formats and printing tests on different see-through materials.
Static Movements is published on the book Data Flow 2 (Gestalten, 2010) The project is also featured the data visualization blog Visual Complexity.
